Between illegal work and streetwalking
Tobias Zielony is one of the advanced young photographers of our time. His works cover the range from classic documentary to conceptual presentation. His photographs document what the protagonists represent in the shown situations and spaces as well as who they are or pretend to be.
Aimless, smoking, waiting in a non-place: Photographer Tobias Zielony has already documented scenes featuring young people in various European cities. His picture “Dawn” from the series “Zgora” was taken in 2008.

Zielony's work is linked to sociological and psychological analyses of photographic explorations of sub-cultural melting pots, particularly in cities. Much of what Zielony shows of different European cities can also be found in the cities of the Ruhr.
Zielony will research the subjects of prostitution and immigration for several months in preparation of the exhibition at Kunstverein Dortmund. He'll conduct his research in the red light district between Dortmund's Juliusstrasse and Ravensberger Strasse, where more and more young women from Eastern Europe offer their services as prostitutes. He'll also head to Mallinckrodtstrasse where lots of Bulgarians work illegally. As in all his previous projects, Zielony will get in contact with his subjects.
