The information infrastructure for tourists
With the aim of providing all visitors the best possible guidance in the Capital of Culture Year, and beyond, a network of information and visitors’ centres is being created which is unique in Europe. The RUHR.VISITORCENTERS can be found at five central tourist attractions, the newly created urban experience sites: in Bochum’s Mining Museum, in Oberhausen’s CentrO, in Duisburg’s City Palais, in Essen’s Custom Union and at the Dortmund U. The Dortmund Tourist Information is situated directly opposite the Central Station.
Dortmund is a "portal city", the tourists’ nerve centre for the eastern part of the Ruhr Metropolis. From here there are many routes for art enthusiasts leading into neighbouring city centres.
Dortmund’s RUHR.VISITORCENTER is at the Dortmund U, the Centre of Art and Creativity, and is a tourist attraction in itself. An interactive information table and an interactive telescope, models and touchscreens bring the local area, the experience site and of course RUHR.2010 to life for all visitors. A pleasant atmosphere, a full service for tourists, ticketing and friendly assistants as well as a souvenir shop make the Dortmund RUHR.VISITORCENTER an ideal starting point for exploring the region.
