Partnership with Dura, Palestine
Since 2018, the City of Dortmund has maintained a municipal project partnership with the City of Dura in Palestine in order to strengthen municipal relations between German and Palestinian municipalities.
Joint projects are developed to improve living conditions on site.
Through the partnership, various measures have been taken with regard to waste disposal (in cooperation with the Entsorgung Dortmund GmbH), social work and IT equiment. Medical care shall be improved due to an exchange of guest students with the clinical center Dortmund.
Cultural projects are also intended to strengthen inter-city relations, for example through a photo exhibition "Living in Palestine" by the photojournalist Mashhour Wihwah, which has brought everyday life of the 40,000 inhabitants of Dura closer to the people of Dortmund.
